Integrate AI and make student thinking visible

Hi. I’m Professor Lisa Egle, writing professor and AI integration specialist.

I can help you make it happen.

From policing to integrating: my AI journey

I was an early adopter of AI in my writing classes; it made sense to me to integrate it, not fight it.

Since then, I’ve trained faculty across disciplines to redesign assignments with AI. My approach evolved from cheating prevention to making student thinking visible.

When used transparently with a focus on process over product, AI becomes a genuine tool for growth. I can show you how.

This is what I’ve taught faculty at Passaic County Community College, where I’m Associate Professor of English Language Studies, and elsewhere. If you’d like to learn more about my teaching experience or the workshops I’ve given, please click here.

For English, DE and ESL instructors, most professional development falls short.

With 1-on-1 coaching, I can help you integrate AI more effectively

What does AI integration look like?

In my classes, students share AI chat links, make process videos and complete error analysis tables. Sometimes, they learn with AI and then, get assessed without it. They also work with a custom AI tutor I created with Gemini.

The goal: make thinking visible at every stage.

It's all about your comfort level. At first, you might only integrate some AI.

In my case, over the past 3 years, I've redesigned everything: my pedagogy, my assignments, my assessments. Now, AI isn't an add-on. It's woven into the process, and student thinking is visible throughout.

What I do:

  • Find the vulnerabilities in assignments (where cheating temptation is strong)
  • Figure out how to fit AI into the pedagogy and restructure some or all of the assignment
  • Model the type of AI use I want to see
  • Revamp the assessment; rethink the weighting

What students do:

  • Share AI chat links so I can see their thinking and how they used AI
  • Make process videos, walking me through what they did, what they learned, and why they made certain choices (works well for research papers)
  • Complete error analysis tables — reflecting on what AI corrected, why it was an error, and what they learned from it (effective for writing classes)

There are many other ways to integrate AI into assignments and assessments. This is just some of what's possible.

What educators are saying

“Lisa doesn't just share theories about AI integration; she makes the process accessible, structured, and empowering. She walks you through concrete strategies that you can actually implement the next day.”

Sonja Rodiger-Radovic, ESL Instructor, Hudson County Community

“I have been impressed by Lisa's expertise and innovation, most recently in her work helping faculty navigate Al integration... Her creative assessment and feedback techniques serve both multilingual and native-speaking students and can be adapted by faculty across disciplines. ”

Nancy Silvestro, Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Passaic County Community College

“I went into Lisa's coaching session hoping to pick up a few ideas, and in just one hour, I left rethinking how I approach AI in my own classroom. To anyone teaching a writing course, whether the students are multilingual or native speakers, I highly recommend Lisa for AI integration coaching.”

Aneta Braczyk, ESL Instructor, Kean University
